Fun at the Reservoir
Each month TAY youth and their counselors gather in beautiful places to connect with nature and with each other. Together the youth have enjoyed yoga, art, pet therapy, chocolate tasting, and most recently a trip to Lafayette Reservoir.
The events are becoming very popular among both clients and staff, and last week youth from the Family Pathways program joined the fun! The gatherings allow clients and clinicians to interact in a less formal setting, where the goal isn't therapy or building skills, but are instead just meant to be fun and relaxing. During these "fun days" youth create, connect, and are just free to enjoy themselves.
At Lafayette reservoir, Larry the master fisherman showed youth how to cast and reel. The weather was beautiful, and despite not catching any fish this time, everyone had a chance to relax in beautiful surroundings, listen to the gentle sounds of calm water, and enjoy snacks and treats provided by generous donors.
We were also joined by the team from the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We are so grateful to everyone in the community who makes these events happen! If you would like to become involved in making more fun outings possible for our youth, please email Danielle at volunteers@youthhomes.org.
“I love watching our clients step out of their comfort zones to learn a new skill. Some clients really got into the fishing zone and seemed to enjoy the serenity of the water.” -Nicole Stigamire
