Gratitude for the Work We Get To Do!

Every day we witness resilience and determination within the young people we work with at Youth Homes. They remind us there is much more to a family than just the one we're born into. This was reemphasized when a former Youth Homes client recently reconnected with her clinician after several months of no-contact.

As many of you already know from first-hand experience, the Youth Homes team is made up of some of the most caring, passionate, and dedicated people you'll ever meet. They work incredibly hard with our youth, infusing hope into their lives and teaching them what trusted and supportive relationships can look like. Even after youth move on from Youth Homes, staff sometimes make themselves available to their clients, thereby becoming part of the circle of support that uplifts and connects young people toward a positive future.

Our clinician, Ben*, had become worried after several months had passed with no word from his former client, Charity*. Ben often reached out to check-in to see how Charity was doing and if she needed support or resources. He was relieved when eventually, Charity reached out. She apologized for being out of touch, saying that she had wanted to wait until she had news to share that would make him proud of her.

Charity thanked Ben for being like a father to her and shared that she was finally in a good place in life. Charity proudly informed Ben that she was now employed at several jobs and was working toward full independence.

Belonging and pride in oneself are some of the crucial elements of adult well-being. Along with Ben, we are all proud of Charity and grateful to have been part of her journey. We are also thankful for our staff's enormous hearts and deep commitment to this work. Staying connected and steadfast as a source of support is just part of the enduring legacy of impact we have on young people's lives.
