Lafayette Community Day at Cherry Lane
On the morning of June 3rd, a community full of people gathered in the center of their town and spent the morning making a huge impact, simply because they care. Youth Homes is so pleased to have participated in the second annual Lafayette Community Day, a profound example of folks working together to accomplish a larger mission.
We had a beautiful day hosting team members and their families from Mechanics Bank as they planted herbs up the driveway of our Cherry Lane home in preparation for a new group of young people to move in very soon. The outpouring of time and energy from these volunteers on Cherry Lane will directly translate to the amount of safety and care our youth will feel upon moving in, which is what makes our program work - a healthy, welcoming space for them to heal and grow. Meanwhile, our tiny but mighty volunteers potted succulents that are now being sold at Youth Homes Thrift Shop - come get yours before they're all gone!
Thank you to the Mechanics Bank team for all their hard work, and to Orchard Nursery and Ruth Bancroft Garden for their donations of tools and supplies that made our project possible. With volunteers of all ages, little ones, and dogs running around the front yard, Cherry Lane felt like the most welcoming home on the block.
The life-altering work of Youth Homes could simply not unfold in the absence of community. It is only because there are so many people around us who care and are invested in the lives of our young people that we are able to provide the level of care that we do. It takes a village of incredible humans all working toward a greater mission in order to make the challenges our youth have faced seem possible for them to overcome, and we are so lucky to have that.
