A Decade of Dedication with Louie Jacobus

Meet Louie Jacobus, LMFT, our Director of Clinical Operations. Approaching a decade of service with Youth Homes, Louie has witnessed our organization’s growth firsthand. It was enlightening to sit down and hear about his background and his service to Youth Homes.

Born and raised right here in Concord, Louie didn’t always know he would end up in social services, but he always had a knack for working with youth - this manifested as volunteering, serving as a camp counselor, and coaching youth lacrosse. After graduating with his bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, he first joined Youth Homes as an Overnight Residential Counselor at our Cherry Lane home. It was the job of our residential team to create structure and safety for our young residents, some of whom were too scared to even sleep alone in their bedrooms. Louie describes how good it felt to be able to make a difference so close to home.

Louie set his sights on going to graduate school and becoming a residential clinician. Balancing school while still doing the same heavy and impactful work was challenging, but his clients kept him motivated, always reminding him of what an amazing clinician he would be. Louie graduated again from St. Mary’s college, became a clinician, and was able to direct his efforts toward our youth in a more therapeutic way.

Louie eventually left Cherry Lane and became our first designated intake and discharge supervisor, managing entries and exits from our services. Now, he is our Director of Clinical Operations, where he continues to ensure that our youth are given the services they need and treatment they deserve while in the care of Youth Homes.

“Youth Homes’ strength is the ability to adapt,” Louie says. After weathering a pandemic and continuously experiencing state law and policy changes that are beyond our control, Louie credits our amazing leadership as what has kept us grounded and created space for our continuous growth.

“Another strength is our ability to plant seeds for positive change in our youth,” he adds. Louie sees the dedicated work of our passionate and energetic service providers reflected in how much our clients deeply trust them. Looking ahead, he is confident that our team will continue to be adaptable, flexible, and sustainable, as we plan for a long future of critical service provision.

Thank you, Louie, for 10 years of amazing hard work at Youth Homes! We are so thankful for your continued efforts toward achieving brighter futures for our young people.
